The St. Lucy School campus has been a part of the
historic Campbell community for over 50 years. The extensive campus
features beautiful, dedicated spaces that support every aspect of the
school program. Additional resources, such as learning specialists,
tutoring with teachers, and outstanding technology resources are available
to all students. Our innovative spirit provides our students with a
stunning array of resources across the campus.
Library/Media Center
In 2007, the computer lab was moved and combined with the library to
create a new Library/Media Center. The computer lab contains 40 Intel Duo
Core 2 Apple computers, a state-of-the-art overhead projection system,
high-speed laser printers and both digital and video cameras. A full time
technology resource teacher and all St. Lucy classroom teachers are
certified in computer use. Students in grades K-8 have regularly scheduled
computer classes once a week. Time in the lab is structured around the
NETS (National Educational Technology Standards for Students), and much of
the work is designed in collaboration with requests of individual
classroom teachers. Each classroom (including the science lab, library,
and art studio classroom) is equipped with a multimedia cart housing a
digital document camera/projector that is supported by sound equipment and
a DVD player. The campus is fully wireless, and students in the junior
high carry flash drives as part of their daily routine.
Learning Resources
Students have access to a wide array of supports to their learning.
Because of our low student-teacher ratio and classroom aides, teachers
know their students well and are able to recognize their unique learning
needs. Student learning can then be supported through additional services
and opportunities.
- Classroom aides support teachers and allow
small group instruction in grades K-5.
- Split math and Spanish classes in junior high
allow small class instruction and differentiated instruction to meet
the needs of both typical and advanced learners.
- The reading specialist supports the
development of reading skills in grades 1-3, and extra aide time is
allotted for reading support in grades 4-5.
- The unique LitMasters reading comprehension
group has been developed to meet the needs of students in grades 6-8
and further prepare them for high school coursework.
- The trained learning specialist collaborates
with students, teachers, and parents in support of students with
learning differences in all grades.
- Students have daily opportunities to work with
their teachers before and after school.
Extended Day Care Program
The before- and after-school Extended Day Care program is designed to
support the family by providing quality care that promotes the student's
physical, social, emotional and cognitive development through nurturing
staff members in a planned environment. Qualified, experienced and loving
personnel staff the program. Extended Day Care is open from at 7:00 a.m.
to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the school year. This
includes minimum days and teacher in-service days. After school hours,
students have access to the Library/Media Center in order to complete
projects or do research. The Extended Day Care Program has a structured
curriculum that emphasizes social and spiritual growth for kindergarten
students, who engage in arts, crafts, educational computer work, circle
time, cooking, and physical activities. During the break between morning
and afternoon kindergarten sessions, those in the Extended Day Care
program eat lunch together as a group.
Extensive
Campus
St. Lucy School benefits from a large campus situated next to St. Lucy
Parish Church. The classroom spaces are large and well lighted, with
plenty of space for displaying student work. The hallways reflect the
spirit of the school through displays of student work, special projects,
and elements of the liturgical calendar and school religious celebrations.
A peek into classrooms reveals organized, comfortable spaces, integrated
