St.
Lucy St. Lucy Parish School was established in September
1953 with a student body of 122 first, second and third grade students.
The school has expanded on ayearly basis until it reached ten grades,
including Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten. The south wing of the
school, housing the sixth, seventh, and
eighth grade classrooms, was added to the original building in 1960.
Following completion of the present parish church in 1967, the former
church building was converted to an auditorium/gymnasium. An extended
daycare program began in 1986, and moved to the first floor of the
Julie Billiart Center (convent) in 1992. A new playground structure was
erected and a new gym floor was installed during the summer of 2000.
The central gathering place for morning assembly was renovated during
the summer of 2001. The new science lab opened for classes in January
2002. In the fall of 2007 the library underwent an extensive remodel to
become the Library/Media Center. A glass wall now joins a
state-of-the-art computer lab containing more than forty 20-inch iMac
computers with the remodeled library. In addition, a new door to the
extended day care area and additional afternoon staffing allow after
school use of this beautiful facility by all students. Most recently,
in answer to a growing demand by our young families, the extended day
care area (EDC) was remodeled to include a separate Pre-Kindergarten
facility, allowing us to welcome our first pre-kindergarten class in
the fall of 2012.
The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur have served as
administrators, faculty and staff members at St. Lucy School since the
schoolıs founding. A dedicated group of lay instructors including Sr.
Cecilia Wallace, SND have kept the charism of the Sisters of Notre Dame
de Namur alive in the St. Lucy community. St. Lucy School celebrated
50 years of excellence in education in 2003. Today, St Lucy Parish
School continues to develop outstanding programs that remain in
alignment with its mission and philosophy.
